Carte Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Carte ("Carte", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Carte mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect only the information needed to provide the App's features:

Account information. When you create an account or sign in, we collect your email address and, depending on your sign-in method, your name. We support email/password sign-in, Sign in with Apple, and Sign in with Google. If you use Sign in with Apple, you may choose to hide your email; in that case we receive only Apple's private relay address.
Profile information. Any display name, bio, profile photo, and social links you choose to add to your profile.
Saved places and lists. The places, notes, lists, and shared links or posts you save within the App, including content you share into Carte from other apps (for example, a link or post containing a place).
Location information. With your permission, we use your device's location while you are using the App to show nearby saved places on the map and to calculate distances. We do not collect location in the background.
Photos. With your permission, we access photos you select to use as cover images for your lists. We only access the specific photos you choose.
Push notification tokens. If you enable notifications, we store a device push token so we can send you notifications related to your saves.
Usage and diagnostic data. Basic technical data needed to operate and troubleshoot the App, such as error logs and device/app version information.

2. How We Use Your Information

To create and manage your account and authenticate you.
To save, organize, and display your places, lists, and profile.
To show nearby places and distances on the map.
To parse links and posts you share into the App to identify places.
To send push notifications you have enabled.
To maintain, secure, and improve the App.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your data for advertising.

3. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate the App. These providers process data on our behalf or as needed to provide their service:

Supabase — authentication, database, and storage for your account and saved content. See Supabase Privacy Policy.
Apple — Sign in with Apple and push notification delivery (APNs). See Apple Privacy Policy.
Google — Sign in with Google and Google Places/Maps data used to look up and display place details. See Google Privacy Policy.
Expo — app delivery, updates, and push notification routing. See Expo Privacy Policy.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account and saved content for as long as your account is active. You may delete your saved places and lists within the App, and you may request deletion of your entire account and associated data at any time (see Contact below).

5. Your Choices and Rights

You can revoke location, photo, and notification permissions at any time in your device settings.
You can edit or remove profile information within the App.
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us.

6. Account & Data Deletion

To delete your account and all associated data, email us at the address below with the subject "Delete my account." We will process your request and confirm once completed.

7. Children's Privacy

Carte is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and revise the "Last updated" date above.
